The PAS August [1976] star party began with a spectacular sunset over Lone Mountain north of Carefree. Soon after, 13 die hard star gazers began arriving to witness a super display of lightning over Phoenix. Except for all the bugs zooming around, it was a nice evening for talking about astronomy!
Eventually 13 stars were caught peeking thru the clouds ... as for the Moon, it appeared briefly before sneaking over the horizon. At 9 p.m. we were suddenly clobbered by a rain storm and this reporter splashed home to the movies!
